Education
Year 6 DELF Prim' exam preparations
Every year, students in Year 6 are invited to sit the DELF Prim' A1 or A2 exam. The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) is an official diploma in French language proficiency, awarded by the French Ministry of National Education, and is valid for life.
The Alliance Française de Sydney certified examiners will be delivering the DELF Prim' A1 and A2 exams at KHPS during school hours on Tuesday 28 October. We are proud to say that our students have a 100% DELF exam pass rate!
To prepare, our Year 6 students have been answering sample exam questions in the writing, reading and listening comprehension sections with their teacher of French during reading groups. Next term, students will practice the speaking section of the exam with FANS teachers during recess and receive feedback.
This formal exam is an excellent first validation of your child's progress, and is a stepping stone to the next level of high school DELF certifications.
We wish them all good luck and we can't wait to hand them their first official French diploma!
The French journey doesn't stop here.

Rallye Lecture Reading Competition
Congratulations to the Certificat d'Or winners, who were celebrated for reading the most books of their year!
With so many books read and coupons earned this term, the FANS office was overflowing for the exciting draw for canteen vouchers. Congratulations to the lucky winners.
This year’s Rallye Lecture reading results are outstanding!
A total of 2,565 books were read in just six weeks — that’s over 600 more than last year!Kindergarten students took the lead with the highest number of books read across the school. A big thank you to parents for motivating and supporting their children in their very first year of big school.
Year 1 and Year 2 students averaged more than 12 books each during the challenge, in addition to their regular homework readers. From Kindy to Year 4, the most avid readers reached an incredible 30 books — one book every single day!
In Year 5, despite tackling longer novels and chapter books, some students managed to read more than 20 books, enjoying everything from novels and comics to non-fiction.
Rallye Lecture at Taren Point Public School
Francophone students at Taren Point held their second Rallye Lecture this term. Students were busy reading French books at home and in class:
- Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4): La Cabane magique – Sur la piste des Indiens by Mary Pope Osborne
- Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6): Journal d'un dégonflé – Un looong voyage by Jeff Kinney
A big thank you to Taren Point for sharing their journey with us.

Rallye Lecture at Camberwell Public School (VIC)
This year also saw something new! Our friends at Camberwell Public School ran their very first Rallye Lecture alongside ours. Together, we organised a simultaneous book tasting—students from both schools explored the same books and voted for their favourites. When we finally exchanged results and comments, we were surprised to learn that several year groups chose the same winning titles!
What a wonderful way to celebrate reading, sharing, and cultural exchange. We can’t wait to see what new adventures next year’s Rallye Lecture will bring.

High school classes
Why continue French with DELF certificate prep classes from Year 7?
KHPS graduates finish primary school with a far stronger level of French than any other public school in Sydney. But once in high school, daily immersion disappears – even at Killarney Heights High, where French is adapted for KHPS grads, exposure drops significantly. For those attending other schools, French may not even be on offer, or only at beginner level.
That’s why FANS runs after-school classes designed just for former KHPS students. These classes prepare students for the internationally recognised DELF Junior B1 and B2 exams, with separate streams for Anglophone and Francophone learners.
The DELF is not only great preparation for HSC French – it also opens doors to study, travel and work in Francophone countries worldwide.
Find out more on our website or contact the FANS office.
Enrolments for 2026 high school classes will open in Term 4
