Dear families,

Thank you for your continued support of your child's bilingual education.

Learning in two languages offers enormous advantages for children's cognitive development. It strengthens memory, problem-solving, creativity and communication skills, while opening doors to new cultures, friendships and future opportunities. Every year, we are inspired by the incredible progress our students make in both French and English.

We especially love seeing their enthusiasm shine through learning experiences such as the French Poetry Recitation Competition. Congratulations to all of our students for the dedication and confidence they showed in learning and presenting their poems, and félicitations to those who proudly represented their class in the finals.

Term 2 — A wonderful semester of learning and community

We've already reached the halfway point of the school year!

Term 2 has been filled with memorable moments, including the annual French Poetry Recitation Competition, DELF Junior examinations for some of our high school students, the Nature Cinema Soirée and launch of the FANS Ed Talk series, the European Aussie Night Out for parents, the FANS Annual General Meeting, and the fifth annual World Music Day in Killarney Heights.

A sincere thank you to our students, teachers, volunteers and families who continue to make these events such a success, and congratulations to the KHPS P&C for their partnership in creating a successful World Music Day event.

Looking ahead to Term 3

Planning is already well underway for another exciting term. Don't miss tickets to the upcoming FANS Ed Talk with renowned author Sophie Masson, and save the date for the Parents Trivia Night. Read on for more details.

Students in the Francophone stream will take part in the Rallye Lecture reading competition, while our Year 6 students will begin preparing for the DELF Prim' A1 and A2 examinations, which will be held at Killarney Heights Public School during Term 4.

And speaking of Term 4...

Preparations are beginning for a very special milestone—the 20th edition of the FANS French Market! Be sure to save the date for Sunday 15 November, with plenty of exciting announcements and celebrations to come.

The winter holidays will bring more World Cup matches and opportunities to support your favourite team! Also, don't miss the Bastille Day celebrations taking place across Sydney and continue sharing the French language and culture with your family over the break.

We wish you all a safe, relaxing and enjoyable school holiday, and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed for Term 3.

European Aussie Parents Night Out

Our European Aussie Parents Night Out was a fantastic success, with over 120 tickets sold and a wonderful evening shared by our parent community.

Guests enjoyed a lively night of Eurovision, karaoke, dancing, and delicious German food by Volkswurst. It was a great opportunity for parents to connect, celebrate, and have fun together.

A big thank you to all the volunteers whose time, energy, and enthusiasm made this soirée possible!

Nature Cinema Soirée & FANS Ed Talk launch

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to the success of the exclusive FANS screening of Nature - A Call for Reconciliation and the launch of FANS Ed Talks at Roseville Cinemas.

We were honoured to show this powerful documentary that left audiences with many thought-provoking images and messages about our relationship with nature and the planet.

Before the screening, our Ed Talks panel discussion brought together three inspiring experts in sustainability—d’Arcy Lunn, Jenni Philippe and Thierry Lotrian—who shared practical ideas, personal anecdotes, and hopeful perspectives on how we can all work together within our community to make a positive difference for the environment.

We were also thrilled to mark the occasion with the signing of the official agreement between Le Courrier Australien - LCANews and FANS, to solidify our partnership and continue to support each other’s endeavours.

Thank you again to our panelists, supporters, committee, and attendees for making this such a meaningful evening of conversation, reflection, and connection. Many thanks to sponsor Globe for making this event possible, and un grand merci to Serge Thomann and filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand for granting exclusive screening rights for this fundraising event.

We look forward to welcoming you to the next FANS Ed Talk in Term 3!

World Music Day in Killarney Heights 2026

A celebration of community & music

Under warm sunshine, the 5th annual World Music Day in Killarney Heights brought together students, families, staff, volunteers, guest musicians and community partners for a vibrant day of music, food and fun, while also raising valuable funds to support the KHPS P&C music programs and the FANS French Bilingual Program.

World Music Day was made possible through the support of an extraordinary school and local community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the event such a success and for helping create meaningful opportunities for students through music, performance and community engagement.

Congratulations to the musicians who performed throughout the day! Special thanks go to the conductors, music teachers, tutors and parents who guided and inspired our performers, and participated in creating the day.

A highlight of the day was the new Battle of the Bands, which showcased the remarkable talent of young musicians aged 12–18. Congratulations to Sistarz, winners of Battle of the Bands, and to all participating bands:

2nd place: Scrimpy

3rd place: Glide

4th place: The Owls in the Moss

5th place: Plunge

Our sincere thanks to the generous sponsors who supported Battle of the Bands: Belle Property Northern Beaches agent Anuj Arora, Home on the Range Recording Studio, Ear Candy Music, Emma Hamilton, Evergreen Music, Bucketty’s Brewing Co. and the FANS French Market. We are also grateful to our judges — Ms Gillian Tegg, Mr Michael Regan MP, Ms Emma Hamilton and Ms Candy Bingham — for sharing their time and expertise in support of young musicians.

As this event continues to grow, it’s immensely rewarding to see World Music Day becoming a highlight in our community calendar. We’re proud to bring more music, joy, and culture to Killarney Heights!

Major FANS Fundraiser

This major fundraiser is vital for the sustainability of the FANS bilingual program. While program fees cover teacher salaries, this event funds essential operational costs, recruitment efforts, and new educational resources for our children.

Calling all parent volunteers

While planning has already been kicked off by the event leaders, we are looking for people to supplement the team which will bring this incredible event to our community.

The French Market Committee, composed entirely of busy working school parents like you, plans and runs this event by volunteering their own time. The more people involved, the lighter the workload and the more enjoyable the experience for everyone.

To make this team successful, a variety of skills are needed in music, logistics, decorating, gathering donations for the raffle, and more! Keen to lead a FANS food stall this year? We need you!

Whether you can volunteer for a few hours at a stall on the day, or assist with coordination efforts now, every bit of support makes a difference.
Send us an email if you are keen to give some time, make new connections, and be part of something special!
