Over canapés and conversation, Sophie will share her journey as a writer, the inspirations behind her books, and the stories that have shaped her remarkable career. The evening will explore her creative path, her books for children, young adults and adults, and how her multicultural background has influenced her writing and perspective.

Born in Indonesia to French parents and raised in both France and Australia, Sophie Masson brings a rich multicultural perspective to her work. She is the award-winning and internationally published author of more than 80 books for children, young adults and adults. Her many accolades include the Patricia Wrightson Prize for Children’s Literature in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for The Hunt for Ned Kelly, as well as an Aurealis Award for The Hand of Glory. In 2019, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to literature as an author, publisher and contributor to literary organisations.

Sophie has also held numerous leadership roles in Australia’s literary community, including former Chair of the Australian Society of Authors, current Chair of the New England Writers’ Centre, and Director of the New England and North West region of the CBCA (NSW branch). Alongside her writing, she is Publishing Director of Christmas Press and has been recognised through fellowships and academic achievements, including a PhD in creative practice from the University of New England.

This promises to be a fascinating evening for anyone interested in books, storytelling, language and culture.
